Commercial auto insurance
Basically, insuring a company car is similar to insuring a private passenger car. See the section on passenger cars.
However, a determining factor in the insurance rate for a company car is how the vehicle is used. Our brokers are available to advise you on your insurance options. Call us to ensure you are well covered.
All the details can be found in the following sections:
Transportation by truck
Long-distance truck, including transportation to and from the U.S.
Bond for truck drivers
In addition to insuring your vehicle, it is important to make sure your property being transported, third-party property and property in transit are also covered.
Property being transported is not covered by a basic automobile insurance policy. If your client wants to insure the cargo for its replacement value, make sure this coverage is included in your policy, and that the amount of insurance is adequate.
A fleet comprises all of a company's vehicles. It is more cost-effective to group all vehicles on the same insurance policy.
In addition, you'll only have to pay a single deductible in the event of an accident involving a tractor and trailer (e.g. jack-knife).
Did you know that there is a made-to-measure policy that covers your vehicles, transporter general civil liability, property being transported and bail?
Be sure that:
the goods being transported are insured for their replacement value
you tell the insurer what you are transporting
you specify all territories you'll be driving through
you have bail insurance; this is very important, since laws differ between states and provinces.
You will also need a bond for truck drivers.
Your merchandise is covered by your insurance when it is in the workplace, but what about while it is being transported?
This is when cargo insurance comes into play, to cover your merchandise being transported by ground, sea or air, and possibly during loading and unloading, against most types of damage.
This coverage is used as a bond for the bail of a trucker transporting goods outside of Quebec.
It is very important, since the laws differ between states and provinces.
